Places to see & things to do when camping in the Vendée


Les Sables d’Olonne – the largest seaside resort in the Vendée is a lively town and fishing port with a superb beach that is ideal for family camping holidays in the Vendée. You can also explore the old town, which has a 17th century church, Benedictine abbey and museum.

Puy du Fou – Surrounded by a hundred-year-old forest, Puy du Fou is a unique place to visit for an unforgettable day out with your family or friends. Spectacular shows and authentic villages take you back though the centuries for an experience you’ll never forget. This has been highly recommended as a great family day out when staying at a Vendée campsite.

Planète Sauvage – an African-themed Safari Park that is home to over 2000 animals from across the globe, and makes for an interesting day out when camping in the Vendée. It also hosts a marine centre, reptile centre, monkey forest and a miniature farm, which are sure to be popular with children of all ages.

Ile de Noirmoutier – a beautiful island, home to Océanile Waterpark and the Sealife Aquarium, both of which are great attractions if you are staying at a Vendée campsite with children. At low tide, you can cross at the Passage du Gois, a narrow causeway joining the island to the mainland.

Marais Poitevin – the Marais Poitevin, is the inland marshland famous for its salt production, oyster beds and mussel farms. The idyllic tree-lined waterways are best explored by flat-bottomed boat. Why not cook yourself a seafood feast on the barbecue when you return to your Vendée campsite?

Recommended Routes to Vendée


Short Sea Crossing
From Calais, it is about 400 miles (9 hrs) to the Vendée. Take an early morning crossing or stop en route at our Blois, Tours or Chambord sites, or at a hotel.

Long Sea Crossing
If you take an early morning crossing to Le Havre, Caen, Cherbourg or Roscoff, you can arrive in resort by early evening. (Approximately 250 -300 miles.)

By Air
The sites in the South Vendée are around 45 miles from La Rochelle airport. It is just 12 miles from La Rochelle to the Ile de Ré.

From Ireland
We recommend you take a Landbridge crossing to the UK, then take a crossing as detailed above.
