Places to see & things to do whilst camping in the Dordogne

Roque Gageac – regularly voted France’s prettiest village, clinging precariously to a rock face overlooking the Dordogne, this is an artist’s paradise with many small galleries to browse through whilst camping in the Dordogne, plus a choice of good restaurants.

Sarlat – a beautiful town carved from golden stone and full of Gothic and Renaissance buildings. This makes for an enchanting visit, with narrow, winding streets and a vibrant market every Saturday, a perfect outing for the whole family whilst staying at a Dordogne campsite.

Fôret des Singes – see Barbary Macaques monkeys roam freely in their natural habitat at this park. Wander through the forest and feed them popcorn. If you’re on a family holiday camping in the Dordogne, this is the perfect day out to keep your children entertained.

Domme – a medieval village, perched atop a hill overlooking the Dordogne valley. The small streets bloom with summer flowers and offer exceptional views over the river and valley.

Grotte du Grand Roc – a cave with 40m of tunnels and a beautiful collection of stalagmites and stalactites. From the entrance, you can admire the exceptional views of the surrounding countryside, a definite must see whilst camping in the Dordogne.

Rocamadour – is an extraordinary village, which clings to the side of a cliff. This has been a pilgrimage site since the 12th century – today much of its medieval splendour still remains, and is a popular spot with holidaymakers camping in the Dordogne. Pilgrims climb up the Via Sancta, leading to the main square, by kneeling on every one of the 216 steps.

Take the overnight Motorail from Calais to Nice, from where it is about an hours drive to the campsites.
