Things to do when camping in Lisbon

In Lisbon, you can wander through the little streets in the historical Alfama and Rossio neighbourhoods, well known for their houses with hand-painted blue ceramic decoration. In the evening, you can head for the Bairro Alto district to sample Lisbon's nightlife.

If you hop on the legendary tram #28 going to Alfama you can experience a ride on Lisbon’s most picturesque tram circuit. Once you are at the top of the Santa Luzia Miradouro, you’ll be treated to a magnificent view over the roofs of the old city and the River Tage.

Lisbon also has some vibrantly modern neighbourhoods, like the Marco Polo district and the Nations Park, home to one of Europe's most impressive aquariums. You can also fly over this futuristic neighbourhood in a cable car.

Good-food lovers are in for a treat at the Mercado da Ribeiro, a market where you will find all Lisbon's outstanding chefs at numerous stands. You can also go to one of the tascas (little taverns typical of Alfama) to sample some grilled fish. Another aspect of Lisbon not to be missed is the Antiga Confeitaria de Belém, which produces the best pastéis de nata in the city!

Other notable attractions in the city include the medieval Belém Tower, the moorish Castelo de S. Jorge Castle, Praça do Comércio public plaza, Queluz National Palace and the Parque Eduardo VII public park.

When you stay at one of our campsites near Lisbon, you can also explore the charming little town of Sintra, the royal fishing village of Cascais, the pretty seaside resort of Sesimbra and the incredible Mafra Palace. On the Lisboa coast, sun-worshippers will revel in a day spent at one of the lovely beaches in the region. Gorgeous sands and softly lapping waves await you at the beaches of Praia Velha, Carcavelos and Costa da Caparica.

For walking and hiking trips, there’s no better place to amble through than the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. The landscape of the park features a mountainside that angles slowly towards the sea and is home to a diverse mix of flora and fauna.

If you’re on a camping holiday in Lisbon with the kids, you’ll be happy to know that there is plenty for little campers to enjoy in the region. Children friendly attractions in and around the capital include Pavilhão do Conhecimento science museum, Lisbon Zoo, KidZania theme park, Estufa Fria botanical gardens and Sportágua Water Amusement Park.
