What are the best things to do during your camping holiday near Barcelona?

In addition to the famous Sagrada Familia basilica, the city has several historical monuments that date back to Roman times and the creation of the city of Barcino. As the city is quite big, you will have many things to see and do in Barcelona, as well as in the wider region of Catalonia too.

Throughout its history, Barcelona has been open to the sea, rivalling Genoa, Pisa and Venice as a Mediterranean maritime power. The city began to decline from the 14th century before regaining prominence at the beginning of the industrial era, and rapidly modernizing from 1888. You can best explore this architectural phase of the Catalan modernization in the beautiful Eixample district. Although the city was heavily bombarded during the Spanish Civil War, Barcelona recovered and has been in constant cultural and urban development to become a vibrant capital city of Catalan culture.

During your day trips to Barcelona, it's highly recommended that you visit iconic districts such as Las Ramblas, an important avenue in the centre of the city. If you wish to discover ancient monuments, spend some time at the Barri Gòtic which includes vestiges of Roman Barcelona such as the wall or the columns of the temple of Augustus as well as many buildings from the medieval period, including the Sainte-Eulalie Cathedral. Along with winding streets and quaint alleyways, you can explore many squares like Plaça Nova, Plaça del Rei and Plaça del Pi.

The visit to the superb cathedral of the Sagrada Familia is possible by visiting the district of the same name. This district is also a wonderful opportunity to discover Catalan modernism. Further south, by the sea, you can see the old fishing district of Barceloneta. Along the water, discover the Poblenou district, in which you will find many city beaches.

Camping holidays near Barcelona allow you to discover all the charms and culture of Catalonia, as well as the sunny shores of Costa Brava. Head north from the city along the rugged coast towards Lloret de Mar and you'll stumble across countless captivating coves, blissful beaches and beautiful bays. Going south you can discover the tourist region of the Costa Dorada which links with Tarragona, a magnificent city where you will discover many sites from the Roman era.
